A few months back a friend introduced me to an amazing new site on the scene for any fashion/clothing lovers who like to search out new items or share great outfits they have put together on social media. In return the company awards you points which can be converted into more wonderful fashion items for us to re share.
As someone who loves her fashion and beauty I have loved getting to know this site and thought I would share my experiences so far!
COVET ME - REGISTERING
Go to
https://www.covet.me and you should see the main home page. This has information about the main company, what they do, their owners and contact information.
Click on the link that says Sign up/Log in.
This will take you to the very easy sign up page, you can either use your email address and register by entering this and choosing a password. You can also register with either facebook or your google account by clicking on the relevant links.
Once you have logged in you will be taken to your home page, this has a menu of links at the top of the page, a total of your points in the right corner and the main box that you use to create your covets in the middle of the page. You are now registered and logged in if you see a page like this.
CREATING YOUR FIRST COVET - USING A URL!
There are three ways to create covets, the first is to create one using the URL of an item that you find when shopping. Simply click on the URL bar when on the page to the item that you have found and would like to covet, highlight it and copy it to your clipboard.
On the covet site scroll to the bar and click on the word URL the box should look like this when you click on URL.
Paste your url and click on the green Go button. Covet should find your item and show an image of it in the centre of the page. This is an example of a straw hat that I liked.
Under the image Covet creates a box for you, next you need to click into the box and add any suitable hash tags that you feel someone searching for this product might look for to help them see it.
Once you have typed a few suitable ones you are ready to create the covet ready to share on social media. A word of caution if you share to twitter remember you only have so many characters so do not go overboard with the hash tags.
This is what a created covet will look like, a copy of the item, a description of it, hash tags and then the links to share the covet. I will go into how each of the icons work a little more in depth later on in the review but to use them simply click on the circle for the social media account you want to share the covet on, if you are logged in you will be asked to allow Covet to access your account, allow this then you will be able to simply share using the pop up. If not you will be prompted to log into the correct account and then will be given a pop up containing your covet to share.
CREATING A COVET - YOUR OWN ITEM!
I am yet to actually use this function but I will do one and follow up for you!
CREATING A COVET - SEARCHING THEIR DATABASE!
The function I like the most on Covet is their search facility to find items, I love that I can type in a description of a product I am interested in and it brings up items from many shops that they feel are relevant to my search criteria. Certainly sometimes the products are not exactly what I am looking for but I have seen so many wonderful ideas for me and gifts!
To search, first click on the word search next to the search box in the middle of the page, then enter a keyword that you are looking for. In this example I wanted to look for ideas of poodle related items as I am looking for a poodle related gift for a family member.
When you click go you will be presented with a page of suggestions along with prices and images of the products. This is what I was given to choose from with my search word poodle.
When you have chosen the product you would like to covet, simply click on the image and the covet will be created for you.
Click into the box and add any hash tags that you feel are suitable for the product to share them with a wider audience, then click done.
You will now see a screen similar to above that has a link to the covet along with links to social media to share your covet. To share simply click on the relevant social media link and if you are logged into the account you will be presented with a pop up similar to this asking you to share.
Simply click share and your covet will be shared with your friends. If you are not logged in you will be prompted to log in and then follow the same steps.
You can share the covet with each of the social media and also copy the link provided and share on your blog etc.
HOW YOU EARN POINTS!
For each covet you create and share you will receive points, then when people click on your covets you also get more points. I am not sure what the points ratio is but I tend to get around 7 points for sharing a covet before I get clicks on one.
To see how many points you have on a covet, simply scroll down the homepage and you will see images of the items you shared. This section is called "popular covets" if you hover over a covet image, it will change from an image to showing a figure, this is the number of points that particular covet has made. From that screen you can also see the social media links and use them to re share your covets.
EARN FOR REFERRING FRIENDS!
If you have a friend who likes their fashion then you may want to refer them, Covet are giving 150 points for every friend that you sign up. To do this click on the wording in the top left hand side of the home page that says "invite a friend = 150 points" this will take you to a screen asking for their email address. Simply fill in the boxes and your friend will be sent an email invite to join. If they join and use the site you will receive 150 points. Please do not abuse this system, some nasty people have been making up fake referrals to gain points. This is holding up the poor staff at Covet as they work to weed out the cheaters! So sad to see!
HOW TO SPEND POINTS!
At the top of the home page you should see your points clearly shown in the top right corner of the screen. Once you have enough of these to redeem for a voucher you can do so by clicking on the link in the menu that says "see all rewards". Once in the rewards page you will see a selection of vouchers and their value, simply choose the one you wish to purchase and click on it.
As you can see I do not have enough points for a voucher at present so I can not show you how the next screens look but once you click on the voucher you wish to swap your points for you get a pop up asking if you wish to exchange for the voucher and then the points will be deducted from your total. You will get an email confirming you have requested a voucher, but not what voucher which is the first part I think they need to look at. While I have yet to see anyone complain they have not had the right voucher, it certainly seems to be somewhere problems may arise in the future.
HOW LONG DO YOU WAIT FOR VOUCHERS?
The email tells you to expect your voucher in around 7 days, however there is a huge backlog at the moment and people are waiting at least 2 months for vouchers.
MY THOUGHTS ON COVET!
I really like the idea of the app, although I am yet to take a photo of me in an outfit, I will be trying it in the future. I think once the app is a little more established I will use that function more.
I adore the search function, I have found several items that I would like to own and one I have since bought. I have also used it to search a few times for gift ideas and it has brought up some good ideas. Will certainly find it handy at Christmas!
I have felt a little uncomfortable with the lack of transparency of the rules and the fact that the point system has changed. I am giving them lea way due to the fact it is a fairly new company and they are simply trying to get things running smoothly. However I would like to see a clear set of guides as to what function is worth what and a better clarification of what they define as a quality Covet. I have seen so many posts on blogs and social media about what people are deciding themselves what makes a popular covet.
I have slowed down on my using of the site recently after seeing some people claiming they have been banned for no reason, although I have a feeling these claims are un true. These along with the fact I have not received a voucher yet I am only sharing the occasional one. It's not that I do not trust Covet as such, the problem is as I share them friends keep asking what they are, I was happy to tell them about the company before but now I feel guilty for the friends I suggested the site too and responsible for the fact their vouchers are delayed. Once they have cleared their backlog I will feel much more comfortable sharing the covets more often again.
I am going to leave judging the site any further until they have had a chance to clear their backlog, it is unfair to judge a start up company so I will follow backup when I receive vouchers or there are any further changes to the site.
CONTACTING COVET!
If you need to contact Covet, they do have a facebook page, twitter and email address, however I have found that the best place to contact is to tweet their twitter help page with is @covetme_help While they do take a long time to get back to you, they are responding and trying to let you know where you are in the backlog.
